چکیده

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a multifactorial disease; however, the presence of nasal polyposis may be a significant underlying etiological factor affecting the pathophysiology. In the pathophysiology of nasal polyposis, up-regulation of adhesion molecules is induced by interleukin-1 (IL-1) in the vascular endothelium and by IL-8 in epithelial cells and neutrophils. This occurs in addition to effusion, which happens as a result of increased secretion of neutrophil chemoattractants and the accumulation of neutrophils. Histomorphological analysis of CRC with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) has revealed eosinophils and mixed mononuclear cells with a suppression of neutrophil activity. IL-17A is a member of the IL-17 cytokine family, which consists of six cytokines, termed IL17A-F. IL-17A and IL-17F have the highest degree of homology, and IL-17A is also produced in natural killer (NK) cells, neutrophils, eosinophils, and δγT cells. IL-17 is important in host responses to infections and in the regulation the neutrophil response and is significant in the pathogenesis of CRSwNP. Acta Medica Mediterranea, 2017, 33: 211

Role of interleukin-17A in the eosinophil accumulation and mucosal remodeling in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps associated with asthma.

BACKGROUND Interleukin (IL)-17A is a highly inflammatory cytokine with a robust effect on stromal cells in many tissues. Although IL-17A is known to be associated with inflammatory lung disorders by triggering an accumulation of neutrophils, the effect of IL-17A on the upper airway is still uncertain. The expression of IL-17A and its role were investigated in the nasal polyps of chronic rhinosi...

Analysis of Serum Cytokine Levels in Larynx Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Dysplasia Patients

Background: Although the imbalance of cytokines in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is well known, there is scarce data regarding its occurrence during dysplasia, before the malignant transformation. Objective: To determine whether laryngeal dysplasia patients show a different cytokine profile than patients with cancer and healthy controls. Methods: Seventeen newly diagnosed, untre...

Expression of interleukin-22 and its significance in the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis.

In order to explore the role of IL-22 in the pathogenesis of CRS, we observed the expression of IL-22 and associated factors in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). Immunohistochemical staining was applied to detect the expression of IL-22, IL-22R, STAT3, retinoic acid orphan receptor C (RORC) and aryl hydrocarbon recptor (A...

Comparison of Expression of Cytokeratin 7 on Epithelium of Nasal Polyps and Mucosa of Chronic Rhinosinusitis

Background and Objective: Nasal polyp is the most common benign mass of the nasal cavity and it is originated from nasal cavity or sinuses. Cytokeratins (CK) are intermediate filament proteins that provide mechanical support in epithelial cells. The purpose of this study was to compare the expression of cytokeratin 7 in epithelium of nasal polyps and nasal mucosa in chronic rhinosinusitis. Mate...
